CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Project Milestones

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Health Care Redevelopment Project will transform the delivery of health care in CBRM to better meet the needs of patients, health care professionals, and communities.

An investment worth hundreds of millions of dollars, the overall project includes:

To date, the following milestones have been achieved:

January 9, 2020 – The construction management contract for projects at the CBRH was awarded to Pomerleau Lindsay Construction Joint Venture.

February 2020 – Parking lot construction contract for CBRH awarded to Joneljim.

March 2020 – Design contract for Northside projects awarded to Architecture 49 (A49).

April 29, 2020 – Start of Phase One replacement parking construction at CBRH.

May 19, 2020 – New Waterford Hub (CHC/LTC/BEC) design contract awarded to A49 with association with HDR.

June 25, 2020 – New Waterford Sports Field construction contract awarded to Municipal Group.

July 15, 2020 – New Waterford Sports Field construction begins.

July 28, 2020 – Sod turning at future site of Cape Breton Hospice.

August 10, 2020 – EXP awarded design contract for Glace Bay Hospital new addition and renovation.

October 16, 2020 – Tom Peach Renal Dialysis Clinic opens for patients.

October 23, 2020 – PCL Constructors Canada, Inc. awarded construction management for both the Northside and New Waterford Projects.

January 2021 – Northern Contracting Ltd. awarded CBRH Early Works (earthwork) Tender.

January 25, 2021 – Opening of the CBRH Replacement parking lot.

February 2021 – Construction plans at CBRH to include maternal and newborn services unit.

February 26, 2021 – Bird Mechanical awarded Cape Breton Regional Telethermic Piping (underground piping and electrical) Tender.

March 11, 2021 – Northside early works package awarded to Northern Contracting.
