The Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation is receiving a $100,000 gift, one of its largest donations ever.
The donation comes from the Cape Breton Island Building and Construction Trades Council and its unionized contractors. It will be used to buy a new ultrasound and a bariatric hospital bed — a specialized bed designed to support a higher weight capacity than a regular inpatient bed.
“As the largest donation received by our foundation, this is a very exciting day for our board, patients and staff,” said foundation chair Frances MacDougall.
“As a board and working with a small staff, this could have taken us well over two years to raise the money. Thanks to this donation, we can continue to provide important health services on the Northside.”
The new equipment will be added to the Northside General Hospital later in the year and will be moved to the new health centre, which is under construction in the Northside Business Park.
