The province is taking another important step to make way for the construction of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital expansion, as part of the CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Project.

Today, Dec. 4, the province approved funding of $2.6 million to relocate one of the parking lots at the back of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. The parking lot, which is closest to the building, has 238 spaces. The spaces will be moved across the street from the current Cape Breton Cancer Centre.

“The expansion of the regional hospital is an important part of the CBRM Health Care Redevelopment,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Lloyd Hines. “The relocation of the parking lot will provide the space needed for a new emergency department, cancer centre and critical care department, which will transform health-care services for Cape Bretoners.”

A traffic impact and parking study will determine how many more parking spaces will be added to meet future parking needs at the hospital.

A tender for the relocation of the parking lot will be issued soon and work will start early in the new year.
