The Nova Scotia government has pledged another $3 million to attract and retain skilled newcomers.
The money will go towards settlement support, helping provide health and skilled trades workers with enhanced English language training, settlement assistance, support for growing the francophone population and community settlement programs.
“We’re very pleased to have attracted so many skilled professionals to Nova Scotia last year in fields where we need them most,” said Jill Balser, minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration.
The province says its immigration programs approved 763 health-care providers and 244 construction professionals among the 6,830 applicants in 2023 — increases of 88.9 per cent and 85.8 per cent, respectively, over the year before.
