MEMBERTOU, N.S. — Work is advancing at Membertou First Nation’s future health centre site, located at the intersection of Churchill Drive and Big Noel Ekel in Membertou.
The construction, led by the Dartmouth-based company Lindsay Construction, marks a significant development in the community’s health-care infrastructure.
The new health centre is poised to replace the Membertou Wellness Home, currently situated at Autwen Ma’sl Awti (formerly Maillard Street) and Membertou Street. The existing facility offers a range of programs and services to community members, including crisis prevention/intervention, mental health services, pre-natal care, addiction services, dental therapy, chronic disease care, a medical clinic and more. Kelsea MacNeil, Membertou’s director of public relations and business development, notes that the current facility needs to be improved to meet the growing community’s needs.
